scorcerer and familiers

Some time ago, I received the bones kickstarter from Reaper. The set included a nice little set of familiers. I thought that I would have a go at painting some of these up.

I starter with a strange little creature made of wood, a fox and a strange green flying thing. Started by fixing these to British 5p coins. Then I sourced some 20mm bases and added the whole assemblies onto these. I think I have fallen in love with the fox figure.

Next up come a more traditional cat, Ferret and small fire elemental. Once again based on 5p coins then on 20mm bases.

Finally I have painted up a sorcerer figure. He is supposed to be from a fire elemental bloodline, so I have chosen appropriate colour scheme.

Considering how soft the plastic is, they paint up quite well.

Oathsworn kickstarter painting commences (plus a croc and a wolf)

I will make no bones about it. I have a soft spot for Oathsworn miniatures. I believe that Michael and Jo produce some nice figures. More importantly, however, the provide excellent customer service from a very small cottage industry.

They only appear to sell figure through kickstarter projects, so I joined in on their latest enterprise, the Heroes kickstarter. A little over a week ago, the figures arrived, early as normal. so I reached for my paint brush.

The first figure that grabbed my attention was a pack pony called Bill (gosh I wonder where that name came from).

Oathsworn have supplied resin bases for all the figures, so I have clipped the tabs off and pinned the figure to the base.

Next up is a figure for my son for an upcoming roleplay adventure. My son had chosen to play a halfling Cavalier and it just so happens that there is a suitable figure amongst the selection. So here goes.

I mounted the little chap on a very small base (20mm diameter) because he is a small character in Pathfinder rules and this indicates his small size.

The advantage of painting such small figures is that it does not take very long at all.

So I had an opportunity to paint a Crocodile animal companion for the druid in our role-play group who was careless to have his last companion (a lion) killed.

This is supposed to be a medium creature, so I have fixed him to a medium base. I couldn't find a croc small enough and ended up ordering a ZeeDee miniatures croc. Hopefully, no-one will notice he hangs off in every direction.

Every Cavalier needs a ride, so my son as elected to go for a wolf. I have selected for his a wolf from Otherworld miniatures. Theses are a very hit and mix company with some of the nicest, but also some of the worst models on the market. This wolf really ticks all the boxes for me and was an absolute pleasure to paint, once I had finally worked out a reasonable colour scheme.

Last but not least, I have returned to the Oathsworn selection to paint up a small camp fire. Hopefully this lot should keep my DM happy.

Oathsworn Dwarf Kickstarter: four more painted

Today marks the final day of the second Oathsworn miniatures kickstarter. It therefore appears appropriate to finish painting and post another four miniatures from the excellent first kickstarter campaign. About a month ago I finished my first five figures, so for this post I randomly selected another four to rattle through.

Mordrin Pathfinder

 I love this little chap. I don't think I have ever seen a dwarf throwing axes before and to catch one in the act is so exquisite. I got myself a little confused about what each material represented. In the end I elected to have Mordrin wearing a white undergarment, a blue hooded cloak and a leather jacket over this. I hope that this is something like what Michael and Jo intended.

 Mordrin has a long shafted second axe, a neat back pack with bed roll, drinking flash and horn hung from his hip. I wonder if you can spot them all. The nicest feature was the toggles used to secure the hoods sleeves. Sweet details Oathsworn.

 Hargun Hammerhand

 Hargun is a more traditional armoured dwarf. The main challenges were working out how is hat was supposed to look, and what is cape was made off. Not quite sure I got either correct, but it is my best guess.

Halgur Grumsdottir

 I just love the way Michael sculpts faces, especially female dwarf faces. I suspect that he uses a model. A case in point is Halgur. I don't think I have done her full justice, but she is so great to paint. I assumed that she is a Dwarf ranger so have kept her colours to greens and browns; but I could not resist the temptation to give her grey leggings. The cape was has made her a bit too glossy, so I will matt varnish to remove this effect.

 Grindol Stonehide

Finally Grindol is again a traditional armoured Dwarf, but is soo very full of character. I gave him a red beard to contrast the greys of the armour. Once again the cape is too glossy, bit varnish will solve this problem.

I very strongly encourage everyone to look at the second Kickstarter. If post bidding communication and delivery is as good as the first then you are in for a treat....
