<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My roleplay group is starting the pathfinder adventure called "Kingmaker" and our GM asked that I pull together a group of fairies. Not sure where to start, I looked through the vast collection of reaper bones figures that I receieved as part of their first kickstarter. Here I found both a lovely fairy and a fairy dragon.</span></div>
</div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I then needed the remainder of the fairy troup, so I raided an old collection of GW wood elves, They include wood elf sprites. I convinced myself that these were close enough, but to make them look more fairy like - I decided to keep to a pastel colour theme. I am very happy with how they look together and I think they hit the objective.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Next up, I needed a character to go with the adventure. I have played a number of support characters recently, so decided for a character who would be more up-front and direct.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">You don't get more direct than a Brarbarian, so for your viewing pleaseure I present my attempt at painting up the Reaper Bones figure "Goldar" male Barbarian.</span><br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: right;">
<a href="http://targetpaint.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/warhound-titan-jouney-begins.html">Part 1 </a></div>
<br />
This installment sees me complete the two co-pilots and paint the part of the engine that is visable through the grill on the top of the main part of the body.<br />
<br />
The pilots I kept quite dark in colour so as not to distract from the colour of the cockpit. <br />

The Engine housing is barely visable through the grill, so absolute painting skills are not required. Rather I wanted to give an impression of an operating machine. </div>

<a href="http://targetpaint.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/warhound-titan-part-2.html">Part 2 </a></div>
<br />
I am an active member of a local wargame club. Occasionaly, club members are kind enough to stroke my ego by asking me to paqint figures for them. To make life easier for myself I made a few rule. I have said I will paint one figure per person.<br />
<br />
I never placed a limit on the figures. I am starting to think that I should have done.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNetej3MxR7mSKEYcsJEV5CzxeiZCjqNJ8C1FdMCZIDffSwHyIEvZcpV_R7Ab-X39JPYO3UVFaNzO75E6MLbZWULj3QtWdDi7js2uLuemNKKiLeCvwLZfXGnxFc9p6TGeVxuhZElg-Wr0L/s1600/warhound+titan+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNetej3MxR7mSKEYcsJEV5CzxeiZCjqNJ8C1FdMCZIDffSwHyIEvZcpV_R7Ab-X39JPYO3UVFaNzO75E6MLbZWULj3QtWdDi7js2uLuemNKKiLeCvwLZfXGnxFc9p6TGeVxuhZElg-Wr0L/s1600/warhound+titan+3.jpg" height="253" width="320" /></a></div>
A club member has handed me a very large shoe box, which when opened contained a Forgeworld warhound titan.<br />
<br />
Oh well let get to it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ3hGHqgtcd4ar5MykcHP83Ut4iSecsBFibjesMBkN_slxMHdWGQGDhDlIlLZ05UtvMFh58JCOb1Wk52UOhHSyzI3CX51CfzBjFv2Up-9u-VQEuGWVuY1ihBBBcYH7QvI633IS0uwmLk6n/s1600/warhound+titan+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ3hGHqgtcd4ar5MykcHP83Ut4iSecsBFibjesMBkN_slxMHdWGQGDhDlIlLZ05UtvMFh58JCOb1Wk52UOhHSyzI3CX51CfzBjFv2Up-9u-VQEuGWVuY1ihBBBcYH7QvI633IS0uwmLk6n/s1600/warhound+titan+5.jpg" height="176" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I have started with the pilot or the Princeps if you prefer...<br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Some time ago, I received the bones kickstarter from Reaper. The set included a nice little set of familiers. I thought that I would have a go at painting some of these up.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial;">I starter with a strange little creature made of wood, a fox and a strange green flying thing. Started by fixing these to British 5p coins. Then I sourced some 20mm bases and added the whole assemblies onto these. I think I have fallen in love with the fox figure.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Next up come a more traditional cat, Ferret and small fire elemental. Once again based on 5p coins then on 20mm bases.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Finally I have painted up a sorcerer figure. He is supposed to be from a fire elemental bloodline, so I have chosen appropriate colour scheme.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I will make no bones about it. I have a soft spot for Oathsworn miniatures. I believe that Michael and Jo produce some nice figures. More importantly, however, the provide excellent customer service from a very small cottage industry.</span></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">They only appear to sell figure through kickstarter projects, so I joined in on their latest enterprise, the <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/oathsworn/oathsworn-miniatures-heroes">Heroes kickstarter</a>. A little over a week ago, the figures arrived, early as normal. so I reached for my paint brush.</span></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The first figure that grabbed my attention was a pack pony called Bill (gosh I wonder where that name came from).</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oathsworn have supplied resin bases for all the figures, so I have clipped the tabs off and pinned the figure to the base.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Next up is a figure for my son for an upcoming roleplay adventure. My son had chosen to play a halfling Cavalier and it just so happens that there is a suitable figure amongst the selection. So here goes.</span><br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I mounted the little chap on a very small base (20mm diameter) because he is a small character in Pathfinder rules and this indicates his small size.</span></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The advantage of painting such small figures is that it does not take very long at all.</span></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So I had an opportunity to paint a Crocodile animal companion for the druid in our role-play group who was careless to have his last companion (a lion) killed. </span></div>

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">This is supposed to be a medium creature, so I have fixed him to a medium base. I couldn't find a croc small enough and ended up ordering a ZeeDee miniatures croc. Hopefully, no-one will notice he hangs off in every direction.</span></div>

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Every Cavalier needs a ride, so my son as elected to go for a wolf. I have selected for his a wolf from Otherworld miniatures. Theses are a very hit and mix company with some of the nicest, but also some of the worst models on the market. This wolf really ticks all the boxes for me and was an absolute pleasure to paint, once I had finally worked out a reasonable colour scheme. </span></div>

Today marks the final day of the second <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/oathsworn/oathsworn-miniatures-heroes">Oathsworn miniatures kickstarter</a>. It therefore appears appropriate to finish painting and post another four miniatures from the excellent first kickstarter campaign. <a href="http://targetpaint.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/oathsworn-dwarfs-first-five-painted.html">About a month ago I finished my first five figures</a>, so for this post I randomly selected another four to rattle through.<br />

I love this little chap. I don't think I have ever seen a dwarf throwing axes before and to catch one in the act is so exquisite. I got myself a little confused about what each material represented. In the end I elected to have Mordrin wearing a white undergarment, a blue hooded cloak and a leather jacket over this. I hope that this is something like what Michael and Jo intended.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjApX-SEuSd9XUxEngtvwYCPjjI31t6OlK5P1U57GKfgTo4sZox7mO3vMc2f61OA5AMzxinGXfjYtAbkVvpkhvQcVAz5NqtZKlaTCopMoshwo229kZ-k6DhnAPWdih7vRjrdMRl8DWfkAKf/s1600/oathsworn+dwarf+2+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjApX-SEuSd9XUxEngtvwYCPjjI31t6OlK5P1U57GKfgTo4sZox7mO3vMc2f61OA5AMzxinGXfjYtAbkVvpkhvQcVAz5NqtZKlaTCopMoshwo229kZ-k6DhnAPWdih7vRjrdMRl8DWfkAKf/s320/oathsworn+dwarf+2+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Mordrin has a long shafted second axe, a neat back pack with bed roll, drinking flash and horn hung from his hip. I wonder if you can spot them all. The nicest feature was the toggles used to secure the hoods sleeves. Sweet details Oathsworn.<br />

Hargun is a more traditional armoured dwarf. The main challenges were working out how is hat was supposed to look, and what is cape was made off. Not quite sure I got either correct, but it is my best guess.<br />

I just love the way Michael sculpts faces, especially female dwarf faces. I suspect that he uses a model. A case in point is Halgur. I don't think I have done her full justice, but she is so great to paint. I assumed that she is a Dwarf ranger so have kept her colours to greens and browns; but I could not resist the temptation to give her grey leggings. The cape was has made her a bit too glossy, so I will matt varnish to remove this effect. <br />
<br />

Finally Grindol is again a traditional armoured Dwarf, but is soo very full of character. I gave him a red beard to contrast the greys of the armour. Once again the cape is too glossy, bit varnish will solve this problem.<br />

I very strongly encourage everyone to look at the second Kickstarter. What attracted me to Malifaux is the bizarre and highly creative world that the game is set in...</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">To borrow the wording from <a href="http://www.malifaux.com/">Wyrd miniatures own site</a> "Based in an alternate Earth, Malifaux uses gothic, steampunk, Victorian horror with a dose of the wild west to inject fun and depth into the magical lawlessness of a world rife with monsters, necropunks, man-machine hybrids, gunslingers, and power-hungry politicos"</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The game is a skirmish type game using 32mm miniatures and with factions that include the undead, a "Guild" of human mercenaries, Victorian Magic users, Creatures born in children's nightmares and other crazies far more twisted all set in a semi steampunk victorian wild west.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">What is more the game uses no dice, just a set of gaming cards..</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I couldn't avoid getting involved and elected to get hold of a Resurrectionists gang. Those that know me will not be suprised that I built around a "Jack the Ripper" type character and his troupe of undead zombie ladies of the night.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The first figures I painted were the afore mentioned Rotten </span><span style="font-family: Arial;">Belles.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">These girls come in three poses and I brought two packs. I therefore elected to modify some to make them all look a bit different..</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The blue yellow and green ladies are painted as they come from the box. No prizes, but welcome anyway...<br />
<br />
Now to the matter at hand. I have a little problem, it turns out I am addicted to Kickstarter. Who would have guessed. This little addiction has brought me some long waits and some disappointment along the way.<br />
<br />
Now, none of this applies to the excellent <a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/oathsworn/oathsworn-heroes-of-the-dwarfs">Kickstarter run out of Michael Lovejoys company Oathsworn miniatures</a>. Some run kickstarters for what appear to be months. Michael kept his to 28 days. He took part on the comments chat and his modelling changed to reflect the comments made on-line. In the end he produced 16 No. 28mm scale dwarfs for £32 GBP. Not too shabby at all. Then the best bit, at the time when all other kickstarters go quite, he kept up the momentum. Weekly updates followed and within a month the first parcels were being sent, EARLY!!! <br />
Not bad at all. - No better than that, his is an example that a lot of much bigger campaigns should follow.<br />
Having said all that, the models arrived when I was taking a break from painting so they sat on my shelf for a week or two. I have now started painting these and I present the first five...<br />

The first model up is my favourite of this bunch. I assume this is a wizard type chappy. Following a comment made on the kickstarter page, I decided to paint his armour as leather, so as not to disrupt the magic, then I forgot all that and painted him with a metal helmet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is probably the least favourite of all the sculpts , just because I am not really sure it works. First female dwarf berserker model I have ever seen, so this might capture everything it needs, it just does not do it for me...<br />

Presumably sister of the female cleric, this young lady is a sweet little thing. two hammers and a pretty face. She will make a good wife for any aspiring dwarf. <br />

If you like what you see, I am advised that Michael will be hosting a second kickstarter in the near future. I would keep an eye on his <a href="http://facebook.com/100005576351717">facebook page</a> for news...<br />

I have the dubious honour of being the club treasurer. This requires attending every week, but does allow me to spend my free time doing something I appear to have become a little addicted to. That is searching the web for interesting things to buy.<br />
<br />
Which takes me back to my purchase. The models are a fantasy town house and cottage from a company called <a href="http://www.tabletop-world.com/index.php">tabletop world</a>. Tabletop world is a small company run by two friends in Croatia.<br />
<br />
I brought the models and was very, very impressed. So much so that I wrote up <a href="http://targetpaint.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/tabletop-world-buildings-review.html">a little article</a>. <br />
<br />
Now my painting mojo has returned, I have applied a little paint.<br />

The first of these models to get painted was the town house. If I was impressed with the model unpainted, I am overcome once it received a bit of paint. The model just takes paint so well and is so very easy to paint. <br />

I kept to a straight forward colour scheme, and almost all of the basic painting was achieved by dry brushing. I then added a little variety to the roof tiles and stonework by using GWs washes. Simple...<br />

The photos don't really do the model justice, but there are a lot of nice little details and it makes the nicest little building. <br />

What is more, the roof is removable should you want to use for skirmish or role play games.<br />

The longest of times ago, I took part in a Indiegogo (Kickstarter-ish) project to fund some dwarf models from the excellent Spanish company "Avatars of War". Now I have my painting mojo back, I have painted some more of these chaps. I think at the time they were experimenting with a plastic/resin combo, which just didn't quite work. They have since moved away from this and their newer stuff look much much better. However I still think this looks great (a sudden breakdown in my normal modesty levels).<br />

I tried for a different beard colour with these boys. I tried to follow the beard colour on the left-hand dwarf from the front of the <a href="http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440053a&prodId=prod1050128">Warhammer dwarf army book</a>. It is a kind of ginger going grey colour. Not quite sure it worked, but that was what I was going for...<br />

Real life got a little too real for a while there and I just couldn't bring myself to lift a brush. Oh well, enough about me, what about you? How is your how is your hobby life getting on? Missed you all loads!<br />

I present for your viewing pleasure Miss Olga Kurganova. Olga stands an elegant 38mm hgh from those slender heals to that sweet little head. She weighs in at only a few ounces. Olga believes in world peace and enjoys the company of her lovely sisters <a href="http://targetpaint.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/kommander-malinka-kurganova.html">Malinka</a>, <a href="http://targetpaint.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/kapitan-ivanka-kurganova.html">Ivanka</a> and pet dog <a href="http://targetpaint.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/charlie-kurganova-top-dog.html">Charlie</a><br />

I found these models difficult to photograph, which probably tells you more about my limitations at photography than anything else. I tried to complete the symbols on the back of her coat in NMM gold. In hindsight this was a mistake. Any other light colour would probably have shown off this fine molding better.<br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My warhammer "warriors of chaos" Troll army is coming along nicely with a number of cute units ready built and painted. However play-testing has shown that I am missing one essential element... Even with a high leadership general, I still need the ability to re-roll those darn stupidity tests. A standard bearer is required. Which got me to thinking about how to make him safe. I quite like the idea of a nurgle hero. If I go along with this I could add a Palanquin which would double the number of wounds, add one to his armour save and throw in a few magic attacks for good measure. Not bad for 40 points.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I started with an off cut of plastic card and a 6mm diameter magnet. Traditionally this is marked by heavy rain, and rubbish films on the telly. Well the rain has kept off, but the poor telly is here. I avoided doing any work around the house by feigning interest in a 1965 Dr Who film. I had forgotten just how bad British film making of that era was! That was enough for me to reach for the off button on the telly and to pick up the old paintbrushes...</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have "friended" Raging heroes on facebook. <span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The busy chaps at Raging Heroes have very skillfully identified my weak-spot and supplied models to match. Therefore, on a cold winters night I gave into temptation and dived head-long into the <a href="http://www.ragingheroes.com/collections/the-kurganovas/products/kurganovas-sf">Kurganova limited edition box set</a>, despite the fact that I have no possible army I could use them in! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTQ3DrEAswhLWUuY5Mu2mmt7mVhZHscdvMXU8D_uVowX3dZ3u88JDF8iIz813albujs3T3xTyKJLBeycjCTfT2KP2Pgphbk3nWWqNh2O3jxiIAPtDg7YY0Jr5UfzwwTwJDoYu112AN_HTw/s1600/warshrine+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTQ3DrEAswhLWUuY5Mu2mmt7mVhZHscdvMXU8D_uVowX3dZ3u88JDF8iIz813albujs3T3xTyKJLBeycjCTfT2KP2Pgphbk3nWWqNh2O3jxiIAPtDg7YY0Jr5UfzwwTwJDoYu112AN_HTw/s320/warshrine+3.jpg" width="270" /></a></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have now completed the assembly and painted the beast. When I last left it, I had not worked out how to make it look like it was floating. The answer, as usual was to go do the simplest route. I cut a flying stand short and placed it onto that. Easy!</span></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizkNCo8xjuAsrgY7IJy7gTvZjkCR2-CdyMrS9WJW9CVfTpu3CtmnF3HH0dSjygOylMdXB7Wbb9MGP0LQspEho6b2OmyfjmOmBSNSKpNKRuQV61H-uUiAhsSmJMLQ5K1yixOkb-9FI7z23K/s1600/warshrine+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="231" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizkNCo8xjuAsrgY7IJy7gTvZjkCR2-CdyMrS9WJW9CVfTpu3CtmnF3HH0dSjygOylMdXB7Wbb9MGP0LQspEho6b2OmyfjmOmBSNSKpNKRuQV61H-uUiAhsSmJMLQ5K1yixOkb-9FI7z23K/s320/warshrine+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have tried to maintain a consistent colour scheme across the model, so have painted the slaves that pull the shrine a pale blue colour.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaGv2iK0CTcnY5Nv1Y_I8kZ63IZPAxlA6CVnY5lkahhtlSnse6iDwl08mpzkw_M-lBZ3wdBchNhS_PtjUa_pHTab1pXRsBoXlSrYTOa47dQfLTNBEi2hi4X5YGPW3Bq6MG-ZzkRKE-xJGc/s1600/warshrine+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="303" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaGv2iK0CTcnY5Nv1Y_I8kZ63IZPAxlA6CVnY5lkahhtlSnse6iDwl08mpzkw_M-lBZ3wdBchNhS_PtjUa_pHTab1pXRsBoXlSrYTOa47dQfLTNBEi2hi4X5YGPW3Bq6MG-ZzkRKE-xJGc/s320/warshrine+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />When I first painted the shrine, it was just blue. However my usual advisers; the players at my local gaming club said it needed jazzing up a little. I therefore added a swirly pattern. Very easy in the end, and I think it looks OK.</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">My thought process started with a plastic earring which I picked up from a £1 shop. I thought this would make a good pattern for a war-shrine base.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_OLkGhDwp5oXfdTfftInnridwjLDfLvUDbrfD7POW4S1AT2YWdB_i1yiZl0nujIOfUlJEP304nGZmjE4M_wKXUttvEeopEXYVc6XlvRQaWa_kXTZNaWO6Qa-JPLYoXrsqsEpwTet6E_cJ/s1600/warshrine+wip+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_OLkGhDwp5oXfdTfftInnridwjLDfLvUDbrfD7POW4S1AT2YWdB_i1yiZl0nujIOfUlJEP304nGZmjE4M_wKXUttvEeopEXYVc6XlvRQaWa_kXTZNaWO6Qa-JPLYoXrsqsEpwTet6E_cJ/s320/warshrine+wip+1.jpg" width="214" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After a bit of thinking and a couple of false starts I decided to make the shrine out of cork board. I used two cork tiles glued together. I recon I can make this look like a rough cut stone. I used the parts from the earring to provide a pattern to the base. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsjisUThDHZMu0QM8PO2NPjgqvV6LUZ5NpAXXl7rk6RoN1He88jXvGrYG2TmI_1mRfwfamuxLCVX64h6xv4ZQOCUEXU-laiLXNGu16te1GKJFsSTXQXsICCkv65LBzJyyHGLfMAB7gLxkw/s1600/warshrine+wip+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsjisUThDHZMu0QM8PO2NPjgqvV6LUZ5NpAXXl7rk6RoN1He88jXvGrYG2TmI_1mRfwfamuxLCVX64h6xv4ZQOCUEXU-laiLXNGu16te1GKJFsSTXQXsICCkv65LBzJyyHGLfMAB7gLxkw/s320/warshrine+wip+5.jpg" width="252" /></a></div>
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I then needed something to pull the shrine. I decided to use some empire fanatic figures. I added marauder heads and arms. Now I want to make the shrine appear to float. Sky-hooks anyone?</span><br />

</div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Last year, I supported a <a href="http://www.indiegogo.com/aow-dwarfs">Indiegogo</a> (a kickstarter type) venture to to support figure manufacturer Avatar of War in their venture to extend their excellent Dwarf range. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Avatars of war have been a little slow in developing their figures following the success of the campaign, but before Christmas I received my first figures. A set of 21 </span><a href="http://www.avatars-of-war.com/eng/web/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&prodcode=pl05&prodname=Dwarf+Ironshields&id=118&Itemid=114&teMando=1"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Ironshields</span></a>.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUDS9Oitn3ULcvs49-CB5usrOqNb4n63AnNXKEp2w6adj3gcjeWc0oWz9RQhM1gjv3bZxCbd4B0eW4ryW7fxmoM4TZFB34XuMK28TwT8sxe-5uGV8ZvYFv0f-QMetZrHKvV2MAOf1MSSwm/s1600/avatar+war+ironsheild+dwarf+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="156" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUDS9Oitn3ULcvs49-CB5usrOqNb4n63AnNXKEp2w6adj3gcjeWc0oWz9RQhM1gjv3bZxCbd4B0eW4ryW7fxmoM4TZFB34XuMK28TwT8sxe-5uGV8ZvYFv0f-QMetZrHKvV2MAOf1MSSwm/s400/avatar+war+ironsheild+dwarf+7.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">At long last I have assembled and painted my first five of these figures. The design of the figures is excellent and they make some super looking Dwarfs. The Dwarfs are quite tall and this is accentuated by me putting them onto rocks, but I like the design. There is a slightly restricted range of tops and bottoms, but I think you should be able to create a good looking unit.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZbFJ63lzj79MjZOcW_eHpEprjNcHMBS-Itovkpi2uMPXYastFo8zAzffwUVoV-tsGgdFJX6bn3WjTAuK5kIFLcLFh07mS8axDukEGPKJomyrCxkpnocV0ujJ2mnq_g0YOn3m83bI2j1-E/s1600/avatar+war+ironsheild+dwarf+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="185" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZbFJ63lzj79MjZOcW_eHpEprjNcHMBS-Itovkpi2uMPXYastFo8zAzffwUVoV-tsGgdFJX6bn3WjTAuK5kIFLcLFh07mS8axDukEGPKJomyrCxkpnocV0ujJ2mnq_g0YOn3m83bI2j1-E/s320/avatar+war+ironsheild+dwarf+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So the design is excellent, but the casting is less so. The material that they have used is a resin - plastic blend and it has a strange grainy feel to it. However, once you undercoat the figures you soon forget this.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpOrJyuISkUpIvmuE0Vuc_nJoixpfFbji8CZsZUc1AnMpMx8naMxDiXYyXR-6VAbyVXyIhC0zYSexk7xzqMQmNB-34Iv8fM7Pyh-vF23Jt-5GCWHEN6_wLtg-Cibzl2TalU_fK2nZspTQ9/s1600/avatar+war+ironsheild+dwarf+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="227" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpOrJyuISkUpIvmuE0Vuc_nJoixpfFbji8CZsZUc1AnMpMx8naMxDiXYyXR-6VAbyVXyIhC0zYSexk7xzqMQmNB-34Iv8fM7Pyh-vF23Jt-5GCWHEN6_wLtg-Cibzl2TalU_fK2nZspTQ9/s320/avatar+war+ironsheild+dwarf+5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I found that the casting was quite thin in places; especially on the shields and that some had holes all the way through. I also experienced some significant problems with the weapons. The casting material is quite brittle and with rough handling from my fat fingers; I managed to break off a few of the weapons from the shaft. Easy to fix with a bit of a pin, but not a good sign for the longevity of the pieces..</span><br />

A quick post today...<br />
<br />
A friend of mine is putting together a Dark Angels force for a tournament next weekend and he asked me to paint a banner for him. The plastic banner has the pattern moulded onto the face of the banner, so painting this was very very easy. It was just a matter of colouring in between the lines. I spent a few hours on this but was able to produce a nice looking flag with very little effort.<br />
<br />
This is when GW is at its best. Please GW more plastic and less messing....<br />

The main criteria for this scenery are (in order);<br />
<ol>
<li>It must be robust</li>
<li>It must be very pretty</li>
</ol>
Robust and impervious to damage are the critical because of the way wargamers tend to repack scenery at the end of an evenings gaming. I have lost track of the number of damaged items of scenery. This is the main reason why we do not invest exclusively in GW scenery. There are just far too many sticky out bits to break off!<br />
<br />
Luckily the club is quite well off for funds, so I am able to experiment a little. One of these experiments arrive through the post yesterday.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifjI6oXUsurpWhQZ6hHhZubvyQbPo17OamHTeqxtk7_vIbSbOOqGQUPniCUrgFaardiDFMUGzX9gLG-sr4r3gTnJ1tjsFvzIos_iVHT8ae7Cm0cwV5S4_04mZHORgZDZa4AvPCJb-XYP-2/s1600/tabletop+world+cottatge+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifjI6oXUsurpWhQZ6hHhZubvyQbPo17OamHTeqxtk7_vIbSbOOqGQUPniCUrgFaardiDFMUGzX9gLG-sr4r3gTnJ1tjsFvzIos_iVHT8ae7Cm0cwV5S4_04mZHORgZDZa4AvPCJb-XYP-2/s320/tabletop+world+cottatge+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The models are a fantasy town house and cottage from a company called <a href="http://www.tabletop-world.com/index.php">tabletop world</a>. Tabletop world is a small company run by two friends in Croatia. The British pound is doing quite well at the moment so I was prepared to take the risk of ordering a couple of models via the web.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhurQlKqNjuLRo3c5IrsKfOKiaTLpZNzPaIuoPEr3spW9tW8w8hjcS4X8mjvpthE4C9795zZ4Tn2ctMKkZSHVIc-7mkaoq2_2YlbcpBZdE_Q2JKni-sbIAGA35-V11KgEXM3uP4G0P8Rb56/s1600/tabletop+world+townhouse+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhurQlKqNjuLRo3c5IrsKfOKiaTLpZNzPaIuoPEr3spW9tW8w8hjcS4X8mjvpthE4C9795zZ4Tn2ctMKkZSHVIc-7mkaoq2_2YlbcpBZdE_Q2JKni-sbIAGA35-V11KgEXM3uP4G0P8Rb56/s320/tabletop+world+townhouse+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The product:<br />
I have photographed the models next to a random 28mm empire figure from my collection.<br />
<br />
The models are cast in what appears to be a plastic, not resin as I thought when ordering. This means that they will be very capable of standing up to the mishandling that my club members will subject them to.<br />
<br />
I sat down today to clean up the models. After a very detailed look, I put down my tools. There was absolutely no cleaning up required at all. No mould lines, no uneven base, nothing. Quite excellent.<br />
<br />
The detail on the models is superb. and very well imagined. They will fit in very well into a warhammer world.<br />
<br />

I ordered the models on new years eve and therefore was able to take advantage of a promotion the company were running, which means that furniture was included.<br />
<br />
This furniture is equally well modelled and came in excellent condition.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The building roofs are detachable with details on the inside. Although this is of no use in WFB, it has a use in mordheim or roleplay environments.<br />
<br />
My only complaint is that there is no fireplace depicted next to the chimney stack.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Verdict:<br />
A resounding 10 / 10. Very very highly recommended!<br />

of times I have been playing a Warhammer Fantasy - Warriors of Chaos Troll army based around Throgg and
because GW had never released a Throgg figure, I have been having to make do with marking one of my own trolls. </span></span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Throgg is a troll king character who
allows Trolls to be treated as a core choice. </span>Recently I bit the bullet and elected to convert up a figure to properly represent this most important of all Trolls.</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In the meantime... </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Fantasy gaming blogs are currently active with rumours of imminent release of more warriors of Chaos Monsters/characters. Amongst the figures that are rumoured to be released is a model for Throgg.</span><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> . </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh GW! if only you had been quicker, you would have saved me the effort!!!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Never mind, my Throgg figure is now finished.</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For my Throgg figure, I
had been using my oldest Troll figure. This is an old GW troll from the
</span><a href="http://www.solegends.com/citcat1987jour87spr/cj87ap38bc20trolls-02.htm"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1987 citadel catalogue</span></a>. This is model that represents a thin haunched figure, smaller than the current models. Although this does not quite match the Throgg stories of him being the biggest and best of all Trolls, he is my oldest model in the army and I have developed a love for him Therefore I wanted, to persist with the model.<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

My way of getting around this was to say that Throgg is now very old and has grown demunitive with age. This would still leave the problem of him looking lost amongst his bigger Troll guard. Therefore I decided to give him a little help and provide his own bearer troll to carry him around. It feels like suitable support for a King.<br />

I choose to keep his skin colour similar to that used on the other Trolls in the unit. However, I wanted to mark him out as older. To achieve this I added more pink and skin tones into the brown / beige colour system. I also tried to paint his hair brighter than it should look, to represent a wig. I thought an old king would have a little vanity.<br />

For those who don't know, Throgg is a troll king character who allows Trolls to be treated as a core choice. For my Throgg figure, I have been using my oldest Troll figure. This is an old GW troll from the </span><a href="http://www.solegends.com/citcat1987jour87spr/cj87ap38bc20trolls-02.htm"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1987 citadel catalogue</span></a>.<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Since I decided to paint up the army I needed to do something with the figure. Out of a sense of loyalty to the old figure, I wanted to retain him as my king, but I also wanted to make it clear he was the king. Therefore I needed to lift him up a little.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUIk9kQ2mBOg7ituGTUBTxP_Fi_Qg0mf3_-bY_lFtdsWiJIOrZNNS8Xlb7NadQ-LhhrFE0k0EMRb1r6ewpiVuBFziD7rJ_gvMoRGIqBJySfI-Fdod4WA81-_y6fB3lHPiW12zeG21qg2mM/s1600/throgg+WIP+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUIk9kQ2mBOg7ituGTUBTxP_Fi_Qg0mf3_-bY_lFtdsWiJIOrZNNS8Xlb7NadQ-LhhrFE0k0EMRb1r6ewpiVuBFziD7rJ_gvMoRGIqBJySfI-Fdod4WA81-_y6fB3lHPiW12zeG21qg2mM/s320/throgg+WIP+1.jpg" width="259" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After a little thought I opted to have him lifted high on the shoulders of a troll slave. A was able to get my hands on the troll from the 7th edition box set. The base figure is modelled about to throw a stone bust of a dwarf. It took quite a bit of work to cut this away from the model, but it left him with raised arms that could look as if he is supporting the troll sat on his shoulders. I had to work hard to bend the legs of the metal troll to make him sit more.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;"></span><br /><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I had to disguise where throgg sat by extending the grass skirt so it appears to hang down the back of his supporter.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In an attempt to encourage playing of Dystopian Wars, a steam-punk game from<a href="http://www.spartangames.co.uk/"> Spartan games</a>, I have had a go at painting up some scenery.</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">There are 10 small houses, 4 medium houses, one manor house and a civic building. All told excellent value and sufficient to have a good go at making a small village. The models are well defined and easy to paint. This collection and the industrial set took a combined 5 painting sessions to paint the lot. I didn't worry too much about painting tidy because I am confident that my gaming club will have these wrecked pretty soon, but I am confident that these will add to our playing pleasure.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">Almost two years ago a number of local plays brought Dystopian Wars miniatures from Spartan games and gave it a go. Despite the fact that the games were quite fun, for some reason the game failed to catch on. It may have been something as simple as the messy way the first edition rules were arranged within the book.</span></div>

Each year I try out a different bloodbowl team. To date I have tried Human, Halfling, Chaos Dwarf and Dwarf teams. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I went for a kind of purple / lilac colour which I kept as a single colour to make life easy for myself. I have managed to paint up the entire team in five painting sessions. This is remarkably quick for me!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">For what it is worth I will start the league with 3 Blitzers, 1 runner, 7 line-elfs, 2 re-rolls and a fan factor of 3. I colour the bases to make it easier for me (and my opponent) to identify which model represents which type of player..</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Unless you have spent the last year living under a rock, you will know about the phenomenon that is "kickstarter". It the current hot thing on kickstarter is a campaign to produce a boardgame called "<a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/poots/kingdom-death-monster">Monster</a>". This is a boardgame that is based around roleplay character type development similar to that you will find in D&D etc, but with a clever card based AI system for the monsters.</span></div>

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The campaign features 35mm models produced for the <a href="http://kingdomdeath.com/">KingdomDeath</a> company by a number of the worlds best sculptors. I decided to try before I brought and sampled two of their products. I showcased the "twilight knight" in <a href="http://targetpaint.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/kingdom-death-twilight-knight-painted.html">yesterdays post</a> and tonight I present for your viewing pleasure the female version the "Pinup twilight knight".</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Arial;">The company appear to enjoy producing definitely non-pc figures and this poor girls fits with this approach. Once I got over the fact that she is mostly naked, this model is an absolute pleasure to paint. The cast holds the detail well and was significantly flash free.</span></div>
