Big and beautiful: Dominar Rasheth

Big? - Certainly

Beautiful? Well it is said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder....

Every hordes warband needs a warlock, and mine is no exception; however I was not keen on going for the conventional choices. I wanted something a little different. So once I saw the model of Dominar Rasheth I fell in love. What is lot to love about a chap, too fat to walk; carried into battle on a crib supported by three six-legged baby elephants!

Our fat little lord is resting on his back; but only because he really is too fat to move himself. Does he care? Not one jot, why he has napkins, wine and even a small plate of delicacies to eat. I believe he is pecking at a tray of eyeballs.

I have kept with the same green and gold colour scheme that I have used throughout the wargroup, but have tried to make his skin look pink and sweaty. Don't know if it worked, but that was the idea.
Despite the lovely look of the slothful one, my favourite part of this model is the agonizers.
They look so sad, yet resigned to their fate of forever carrying the decadent one until they collapse and die.

I hope you I enjoy looking at this chap as much as I enjoyed painting him.

The last of the (gladiator) Titans...

A long time ago I started Skorne Hoards force and it is time to present the last two of these figures. Today I will post up the last of my three gladiator titans then as soon as he is ready I will add a completed Fatty on a mattress (Dominar-Rasheth)...

When you have a couple of Gladiator titans and a titan cannoneer; anything smaller just does not feel enough. Therefore I kept with the theme.

I just love the green and gold look for the armour. I think it works quite well against the reddish skin of the beast..

The markings on the base important for game play because you need to know where the front arc of the model is.

I built the chap with no flag for two main reasons.
  • I wanted to easily spot her from the other two gladiators.
  • I couldn't face painting up another detailed banner.

This last shot shows the quantity of green-stuff. Which I have to say was less than any of the other Skorne gladiator models and was a big relief...

Skorne titan cannoneer

It has been a little while since my last post and I suppose that that should not go without comment. I had a holiday so was out of the habit of posting and then work got a bit busy. Any-hoo that was then, this is now.

I painted up a Skorne Titan cannoneer some time ago, but never posted up the images.

This chap follows the same painting scheme that I have adopted for all my Skorne Titans. The green and gold were selected because these two colours tend to compliment each over. The reddish skin provides a little contrast.

I had a little play with NMM on the silver; mainly just to see what it would look like. Not an absolute success, but it will do.
Love the fact that these guys have so many arms.

Skorne paingiver task masters and a start on fatty

On Wednesday I added my first Hordes figures for a while when I loaded up pictures of some paingiver beast handlers. I guess if I have paingiver handlers I should add some task masters as well...

I have retained the same colour selection as I have used for all my Skorne. I guess I just quite like the grean, gold and cream contrast.

Now I have the pictures loaded, I can see I need to complete the second prod...

and at the end of the post,a start on old fatty himself. I have painted his agonizer bearers (bless them)..

Skorne paingiver beast handlers

It is time to catch up on my small Skorne Hordes force. To date I have painted Agonizers, Gatormen, a Bronzeback and two Titan gladiators. What I need now is to paint up a unit to collale all this. Whatbetterthan a mini assortment of beast handlers....

For these guys I have maintained my green and cream colour scheme. I do like to stick with coloursif possible....

With so little of the face showing, I found it quite a challenge to give the models a point of focus. However, once complete I think that that these are some of the nicest models that PP produce for the Skorne range. They have enough to give interest, whilst maintaining  a clean look....
Hope you enjoy..

Now from the back....

Mulg in red; he does not look happy about it

Lets face facts, Mulg the ancient is not a happy troll...

So angry is he that he has had runes carved in his own back. He focuses his rage through these runes.

With this in mind, I was carefull to keep that anger evident when painting him.

I was asked to paint this chap for a friend at my gaming club and was grateful that I was able to go down a red skin colour route. The worry was that by painting him blue, he just looks a little too peaceful. I have tried to accentuate the anger in the red by highlighting up through orange. I went lighter still with the trolls veins by adding vomit brown into the mix.

I tried to paint bright green into the runes after completing the painting of the model. In hindsight this was a mistake and I ended up daubing on patches of bright green in the rune vicinity and then painting the rocks back on. Oh well, you live and learn.

I quite enjoyed painting the club. I elected to maintain this as a well worn light coloured wood. The advantage of this was that it would accentuate the skin. I therefore choose to keep to a colour scheme very similar to the skirt that the troll wears.

Hope you like him..

(please excuse washed out photos, I clearly got the camera settings wrong)...

Skorne agonizers

The plan is to go for Dominar Rasheth as my Warlock, if I follow through on this, his tier list means that I can have more than one agonizer. Therefore it is time to splash the paint at these guys. I have decided to paint up two...

Agonizer A

I believe that it is commonly understood that these animals have lived a life of suffering. Don't fall for it. I think they just want the sympathy.... They love a little attention and will try their best to whimper at just the right time to attract it.

To try and reflect this attention grabbing behaviour I have given them big round eyes which I have then gloss varnished. I have then varnished under the eyes to make it look like they are crying. It looks better in real life, but I think you can just see the effect in these photos.

Agonizer B

There is a limited amount you can do to the posture of these guys to make them look different, so in this case I have avoided making too many changes.

The paint system for the skin matches that used on the Titan gladiators (agonizers that are allowed to grow). This is a colour scheme taken straight from white dwarf 362 for minotaurs, however I have kept it quite dark. The scheme is 1:1 scorched brown and Tallarn flesh washed with 1:1 scorched brown and badab black. This is then layered up through 1:1:1 Scorched brown, Tallarn Flesh and bleach bone through to 1:1 Tallarn flesh and bleached bone. These are then given careful washes of Devlan mud, Baal red and Leviathan purple.

Hordes: Titan Gladiator WIP

After finishing a unit of Gatormen, it is time to start the first of the real Skorne units. The first I will have a go at is a Titan Gladiator.

I have tried to make this chap stand a little more upright, so I could better see his happy smiling face! This has meant that I have had to add a reasonable amount of greenstuff around his stomach. This also meant I needed to lengthen his rope braces so his pants dont fall down. Not too difficult, I just needed to be a bit careful.

A bit more around the seams and the addition of an extra plate (to hide his poor joint when I twisted him up) and he is mostly there. I choose to change the emblem at the top of the flag pole so that he will look a little different. I removed the fish thing and added a helmet/shield combination taken from the top of a warhammer empire knight figure.

I found tht the glag pole connection was very fragile and needed the addition of a very robust load of pinning.

Gatorman; Gatorman, does whatever a gatorman does

First complete unit finished for some time and it's a Gatorman unit for my Skorne Army.

Unit leader:

This guy is pretty much as he comes out of the pack. I have added some curve to the tail and used a little greenstuff to disguise the joins, but he is what he is...

Gator B

With this lad, I have converted the two hand (paw) hold on the spear into a single hand hold and given him a bone to hang onto. The bone comes straight from the GW ghouls sprue. The tail has also had a bit of a bend to give him a more natural look.

Gator C

This is the conventional / standard Gatorman pose. You only get two poses with Gatormen (not counting the leader). Once again all I have done is give him a slight tweak on the tail.

Gator D

This is my favourite of the pack. It is the only model I received with this pose and I think it is by far the best pose they have gone for. Once again very little to change, just a little bend on his tail.

Gator E

Final chap to join the pack and this is back to the standard model (as Gator C). I have made his spear one handed and have bent the other arm (leg?) up. The tail is twisted right back on itself this time.

I found the position of the mould joint on the arm quite difficult. I tried and failed to avid a lump or swelling on the arm muscle when I green stuff over the join.

Hope you enjoy them...
