Admiral Olga Kurganova

It has been a long time since I last posted and for this I apologise. Real life got a little too real for a while there and I just couldn't bring myself to lift a brush. Oh well, enough about me, what about you? How is your how is your hobby life getting on? Missed you all loads!

I present for your viewing pleasure Miss Olga Kurganova. Olga stands an elegant 38mm hgh from those slender heals to that sweet little head. She weighs in at only a few ounces. Olga believes in world peace and enjoys the company of her lovely sisters Malinka, Ivanka and pet dog Charlie

The model completes my painting of the Kurganovas boxed set from a nice little French company called "Raging Heroes". This is a set of three mock- Imperial guard commissars (and pet) which are definitely not PC.

I found these models difficult to photograph, which probably tells you more about my limitations at photography than anything else. I tried to complete the symbols on the back of her coat in NMM gold. In hindsight this was a mistake. Any other light colour would probably have shown off this fine molding better.

All in all, this was a nice set to paint and I have subsequently ordered the Fantasy equivolent set the Von Königsmark boxed set. Happy painting...

Kapitan Ivanka Kurganova

Its a bank holiday Monday here in the UK. Traditionally this is marked by heavy rain, and rubbish films on the telly. Well the rain has kept off, but the poor telly is here. I avoided doing any work around the house by feigning interest in a 1965 Dr Who film. I had forgotten just how bad British film making of that era was! That was enough for me to reach for the off button on the telly and to pick up the old paintbrushes...

I have "friended" Raging heroes on facebook. This appears just enough encouragement for them to send a daily reminder that they are about to start a kickstarter campaign. The intensity of their posts has reached the point whereby I am guilted into finishing the second of three figures I brought in December.

I have kept to a very traditional colour scheme for this girl. The Raging heroes figure matches the many cosplay photos that are out there on the Internet: so I was not short on inspiration for the model.

Kommander Malinka Kurganova

The busy chaps at Raging Heroes have very skillfully identified my weak-spot and supplied models to match. Therefore, on a cold winters night I gave into temptation and dived head-long into the Kurganova limited edition box set, despite the fact that I have no possible army I could use them in! I was just far too tempted by the sight of such beautiful figures.

I assembled them over Christmas and have now finished painting the first of the three girls. Kommander Malinka is a fine young lady and was quite a pleasure to paint.

The details on the master are all there, but they are cast on in quite a low profile. It is very important to be very careful to apply only the thinnest of undercoats. I was not quite so careful, so struggled with some of the detailing. 

I opted to go with a dark purple coat because I thought this would accentuate the gold picture and writing. I couldn't resist giving her white PVC boots. The features on the model are very well crafted and I would strongly recommend the models. Please forgive the lighting, I managed to blow up my lamp before the photos were taken.

Charlie Kurganova: Top dog

I have treated myself to a little Christmas gift: from me to me! I ordered the "Kurganova boxed set" from a sweet little French company called "Raging Heroes". This is a set of three mock- Imperial guard commissars (and pet) which are definitely not PC. It took a little time to come, but just before Christmas a nice little package arrived through the post..

The models were nicely presented in a little cardboard box. Not quite sure why, but there you are! The figures were housed in bubble wrap and plastic bags within. Now Christmas has come and gone, I have allowed myself to have a go at painting and assembly.



The figures are cast in a routine white metal. They had quite a lot of flash, but working with GW figures over the years has taught me what to look out for and that patience at this time is always rewarded. The casts are pretty flat, and the limbs are far too thin to permit any attempt at pinning, so there was nothing left but to assemble and hope for the best.

First on the painting table is the pet dog "Charlie". This is quite a small model which would have been lost if I had just sat him on a base. So I elected to build him his own little pile of bones. A quick raid on the bits box and I was there..

Quite a cute little British bulldog; who for some reason is smoking a cigar and wearing a vaguely German helmet. I have said it once and I will say it again, the French can be a little strange at times.

 In hindsight, the fur is a little dark, but not bad for a start to the set. Next up come the sisters...
